TerraClear CEO Devin Lammers Talks Whole-Field Stone Mapping on KCIM and KIKD
TerraClear CEO Devin Lammers joined KCIM and KIKD in Carroll, Iowa, to talk about whole-field stone mapping and why seeing every acre beats working from memory. Listen to the full interview:
A camera on every acre
Spotting stones from the cab or walking the field leaves too much behind. You won’t see them all, and you won’t remember where they were when the picker comes out. Lammers said a camera on every acre solves both problems.
From order to map
Growers add field boundaries in the TerraClear app. An independent drone pilot images the whole field at 1.5mm resolution. An edge computer then processes the imagery on site, so nothing waits on a slow rural upload. The finished map lands in the app the next day on average.
What growers get from a TerraClear Rock Map
With a TerraClear Rock Map, growers find about 3x more stones than they spot by eye. Each stone comes with a precise GPS location and size, so growers can sort by size and follow an optimized route. Crews pick about 3x faster, whether it’s the farm’s own crew or a local picking operator.
The whole field, not a sample
Lammers pointed to two gaps in other field imagery. Satellite pixels are too coarse to pick out individual stones. Sampled imaging leaves any stone outside the sample in the field at seeding. TerraClear maps the whole field and has mapped millions of acres to date.
No equipment to buy
Most growers use TerraClear mapping as a service, so there’s no drone to buy and no capital outlay. To get started, download the TerraClear app from the App Store or Google Play, check the TerraClear FAQs, or visit terraclearinc.ca.
